The shop

The shop is a 1951 metal warehouse in SoMa, San Francisco: one clear span, 50 by 90 feet, 25 feet to the ceiling, skylights, and two drive-in doors. A lithographer worked here in the seventies. We bought it in late 2025 and are gutting it.

The idea is a one-person shop that gets a lot done: machines that run while nobody watches, laid out so my time goes where it counts. Downstairs, a CNC lane for wood and one for metal, welding and assembly, finishing, 3D printing, and room to work on the truck and the cars. Surfboards and bikes get a wall. On a mezzanine along one side: a kitchen with a pizza oven, a bar, seats for a few friends, and a place to grow plants.

The building comes first: a level floor, three-phase power, plumbing for a bathroom and a kitchen, and a mezzanine sized so the code asks for no sprinklers and no elevator.
